Stephanie Yates

I’m Stephanie Yates and I recently moved back to Brussels after many years living in London, where I worked in the not-for-profit sector. I’m half British half Swedish but born in Brussels…a true European I guess.

Who are you?

I’m Stephanie Yates and I recently moved back to Brussels after many years living in London, where I worked in the not-for-profit sector. I’m half British half Swedish but born in Brussels…a true European I guess.

On which project are you currently working on?

Right now I am working on a website with stories & recipes from Palestine, where I spent 3 months cooking with families. I’m also setting myself up as a freelancer, focusing on project coordination & communications for NGOs.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I love cooking, practising Iyengar yoga, dancing. I travel as much as my finances permit. I don’t know if I’d call myself a proper human rights activist but I try to get involved where I can. And having been away from Belgium for so long, Brussels feels like a new place to me so I am enjoying discovering the city, its museums, etc.

Song you would like to make us discover?

I listen to Michael Kinawuka a lot lately so I’d choose ‘Home Again’ from his first album. He’s a young British musician and his music is full of soul.

A quote, a poem, an advice, which follows you everywhere?

“The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.” by the civil rights activist Ida B Well. It might not follow me everywhere but I find it particularly relevant these days.

How do you feel at Le Phare?

Inspired, connected, at peace. I feel at home. I love the people here, the food, and the neighbourhood.
